Quick tips: Search with related person

Refine your searches by using the “Related person” feature in the Digital Archives

When using the “Advanced person search” feature in the Norwegian Digital Archives, we may end up with a lot of hits. In my article Make your searches more effective, you know there are ways to eliminate irrelevant hits from our searches. Another way to limit the searches is to use the “Related person” feature.

We may search for a child and one of the parents, for a married couple or any two persons that we think will likely show up in the same record.

In the article I linked above I talk about using special characters in our searches. Note that these characters (except the vertical bar | ) can not be used in related person search.

I hope this article is of help to you in your search for ancestors. The search feature in the Digitalarkivet is a great tool. I have also written about doing searches in the Digital Archives in my article Digitalarkivet’s “Find source feature”
