Norwegian causes of death

Many foreigners struggle with the causes of death that are listed in the Norwegian church records.  I participate in various groups on the internet discussing Norwegian genealogy and as questions about this has been raised a number of times, I have been working on a list of death causes with explanations. A question about this was raised again today, I went ahead and published the list.

The link to the list will reside in the top bar of the blog. You can go directly to the list by clicking here.

I  have studied college level history and genealogy, but in this field I consider myself as an amateur. By profession I am a registered nurse, so I figured that this list was in my ballpark.

The list is a work in progress. I am happy to respond to, and include, words that are not already listed.

    • Thank you Ellen! This is unfortunately a death cause we sometimes find in the church records. I will add it to the list.

    • Thank you Guri. That is a condition that eventually would cause death. I will add it to the list.
