Life in general......

I’m still here

It’s been a while since I posted and wanted to give you a word.

Some of you have contacted me and commented that it is a while since I posted. I just wanted to tell you that I am still alive and kicking.

I normally take a break from blogging in summer. This year this break came a little earlier than usual. In early May we were hit by very nice, sunny and warm weather, so it was not tempting to be sitting at the computer. In addition we have been doing some work in our home. All in all, the blogging had to be put on hold.

I will be resuming my normal blogging scedule in the end of August. That is, I may sit down a rainy day and write something before that. You are, of couse, welcome to contact me at any time if you need help with your genealogy in Norway.

Some of you are visiting Norway this summer. If you want to share your experience, I am happy to publish your writing here one the blog.

I have also spent some time pursuing one of my other passions; photography.

Here are some pictures taken this spring. Click on the first image to start the carousel

  • Beautiful photos, Martin! You have a keen artistic eye for color, detail, and balance, so it is a pleasure to view your images!

Whether it is your lovely photos or someone else’s, I must admit that I’ve never seen a “bad” photo or video of Norway. Whether it is the many shorelines of infinite variety, lush forests and fields, high mountains, majestic fjords, or the windswept tundra in the far north, the whole country is a stunningly spectacular feast for the eyes.

The only elements of the country more wonderful than the scenery are the generous, helpful, funny, and delightful genealogy researchers I’ve “met” online through the years while searching for my own Norwegian ancestors after finding the Norway List via Rootsweb; I think it was one of them who sent the link to your web site and from there I subscribed to your informative newsletter which I thoroughly enjoy. The internet is the best thing that ever happened for genealogists.

Most of my Norwegian ancestors lived along the southerly shores of the Skarnsundet, the Verrasundet between the Trondheimsfjord and Beitstadfjord, and another line that connects to Bergen from there. I’ve studied maps and viewed many photos from those areas as well. Beautiful! (I have documented ancestors from seven different countries in some 55 years of genealogy research.)

Enjoy the rest of your summer, Martin! I look forward to more of your regular newsletters when we all settle in for fall and winter.
