Friday finds: Week 34 – 2018
Here are some websites I have visited this week.
“Looking at the lay of the land can help us understand how our ancestors moved to new areas, how hard it would have been to travel to the next county, and much more” Here is an article by Diana Elder in he Family Locket blog telling about how we can do some Map Magic Using Google Earth and the Atlas of Historical Boundaries. This article deals with the US. I might look into this and see how it can be applied in Norway.
Many of us are aware of the big genealogy conference RootsTech. You might, like me, not be able to participate. RootsTech lets us view the handouts from the various lectures. We might find hints and tips in these handouts. Read the article from OnGenealogy How to find free genealogy handouts.
You may have read my post about Cluster genealogy. This technique is the basis for James Tanner’s article found in the blog Genealogy’s Star: Pattern Recognition as a Goal in Genealogy.
While writing about Jewish genealogy, Lara Diamond’s article in her blog Lara’s Jewnealogy is true for Norwegian research as well Spelling Doesn’t Matter in Genealogy
Scandinavians tended to stick together. Many with Norwegian roots, also have Swedish roots. The Swedish National Archives have recently made their resources available for free. Here is a page that is a starter for using their resources: About the search service
In the blog Abundant Genealogy the archive lady Melissa Barker reminds us: Always Check for Loose Records
Always interesting, the Legal Genealogist talks about DNA in the mainstream
Here are some other blogs that presents links under the “finds” meme:
- Genea-Musings
- Copper Leaf Genealogy
- Julie’s Genealogy & History Hub
- Jana’s Genealogy and Family History Blog
- GenTraveling
- That moment in time
