Expanded Ellis Island Immigrant Records 1820-1957 Now Online!

FamilySearch and The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation announced earlier this month that the entire collection of Ellis Island New York Passenger Arrival Lists are now available online. The collection is available on both sites and covers the years 1820 to 1957. These records can be searched for free.

The records were originally preserved on microfilm. They have now been transcribed thanks to the hard work of 165,590 online FamilySearch volunteers. The searchable database contains 65 million names.

Many of us are used to the FamilySearch Interface. The The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. Interface are equally intuitive and easy to use. Both sites require us to log on to gain full Access to their records.

  • I am so excited to log onto these sites & see what information pops up. Both my mother’s family & my father’s family immigrated to the USA from Norway & from Canada. Thanks so much for sharing all this great information with all of us. Can’t wait till the day I can come over & visit!!
