In the last “installment” of this “study” I promised to be back with more. I have gone through some records from the first part of the 1700s and tried to recognize the letters there.

As insignificant it may seem, it can make a lot of difference in your search for family.
The problem was made clear to me some time ago when I was contacted by a lady from the USA. She was looking for her ancestors in Norway and could tell me that her Great grandfather named “so and so” was born in Ore parish in Vest-Agder. Vest-Agder is a county situated in the southern part of Norway. Ore is a place in Vest-Agder, all right. It is in the municipality of Farsund. So far so good!
In this section I want to discuss Norwegian concepts and words that not easily are translated or explained in a few short sentences. I was pondering on what to call this section and, as I often do, I started to search for definitions. I went to the Free Dictionary and found this explanation of the word concept:
“A general idea or understanding of something”
I think this covers what I want to express.
