Books on Monday: “Norway to America” and “The story of my life”

Two books: “Norway To America: A History of the Migration” and “Story of My Life: A Workbook for Preserving Your Legacy”

Norway To America: A History of the Migration

by Ingrid Semmingsen (Author)

This book tells the story of the migration as it affected both countries and investigates the reasons for “The American Fever”.  The story ends with a discussion of the ways in which Norwegian-Americans retain their ties to Norway. The book was first published in Norway as Drøm og Dåd (Dream and Deed), in observance of the 150th anniversary of the departure of the first emigrant ship for America. This is an excellent way to celebrate one of the strongest ethnic heritages in America. “

Ingrid Elisabeth Semmingsen (29 March 1910 in Hamar, Hedmark – 31 May 1995) was a Norwegian historian. Appointed as a professor in American history at the University of Oslo in 1963, she was the first female professor of history in Norway (Wikipedia).

Reviews from Amazon:

-“This book had just what I was looking for. Genealogy is not as easy as one might think, but with this information my written segments are now much clearer to my children and their children”

-“This book has been helpful for understanding my Norwegian grandfather’s life. He died long before any of his grandchildren were born, so this fills in some of the gaps in my imagination about what his life might have been like”
