Life in general......Norwegian Sources

All the scanned church records will be made searchable by 2020

Within the first part of 2020 all Norwegian scanned church records from 1815 into the 1900s will be made searchable

I had to check the date on this news story from the Norwegian Digital Archives (Digitalarkivet). It seems to be true though.

Their goal is that by 2020 all church books spanning the years 1815 and into to 1900s will be made searchable.

There is a but though,

There are only tree sections in the church books that is included in this goal. These are:

  • Born and baptised 1815-1929
  • Married 1815-1960
  • Deceased and buried 1815-1927

The Digital Archives intend to reach this goal through a cooperation with Ancestry, MyHeritage and FamilySearch. The data produced through this cooperation will be published on all the parties’ websites.

Here is the page in the Digital Archives that tell about the news. (Unfortunately only available in Norwegian)
