Becoming \u201cGrandpa\u201d (times two!) has me reflecting on love, lineage, and the surprising joy of parenting\u2019s second act.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"829\" data-end=\"1029\"><div class=\"simplePullQuote right\"><p><em data-start=\"193\" data-end=\"212\">Soothing Saturday<\/em> \u2014 is my little corner for slowing down and stepping away from my usual genealogy deep dives. Think of it as a gentle exhale at the end of the week \u2014 a space for reflections, small joys, and simple stories written just for the pleasure of it.<\/p>\n<\/div>Well, friends, life handed me a brand-new title last November \u2014 one that doesn\u2019t come with a name badge or a corner office, but definitely comes with bragging rights. I became <em data-start=\"1005\" data-end=\"1014\">Grandpa<\/em>. Twice over.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1031\" data-end=\"1338\">Yes, Safina Cora and Cayde Roe arrived together, and just like that, my heart expanded in ways I didn\u2019t know were possible. There\u2019s no panic, no pressure \u2014 just pure joy and the occasional diaper emergency that someone else gets to handle. I get to swoop in with cuddles, stories, and terrible singing, then hand them back when they start to fuss. It\u2019s a wonderful arrangement, really.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1687\" data-end=\"2103\">As an amateur genealogist, this whole experience has stirred something special in me. I spend so much time looking backward \u2014 tracing names, dates, and stories of those who came before. But now, for the first time, I\u2019m watching the story move forward. Safina and Cayde aren\u2019t just names on a chart; they\u2019re the newest branches, the living continuation of all those ancestors whose lives I\u2019ve been piecing together.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2105\" data-end=\"2368\">There\u2019s something grounding about that \u2014 realizing that family isn\u2019t just a collection of records or memories, but a living, breathing story that keeps unfolding. These two tiny humans have suddenly made history feel alive and the future feel wonderfully close.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2370\" data-end=\"2746\">Of course, I\u2019ve also learned that being a grandparent comes with its own learning curve. My knees aren\u2019t quite as cooperative for floor time as they once were, and apparently baby gear now requires a degree in engineering to assemble. But that\u2019s all part of the fun \u2014 figuring it out, laughing at myself, and marveling at how much joy two small people can bring into a room.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2748\" data-end=\"2922\">So this Soothing Saturday, I\u2019m just feeling grateful \u2014 for family, for continuity, and for the reminder that life\u2019s greatest blessings often arrive in the tiniest packages.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2924\" data-end=\"3017\">Here\u2019s to new leaves on the family tree, and to the sweet chaos they bring along with them.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"3019\" data-end=\"3022\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"3024\" data-end=\"3141\"><em data-start=\"3024\" data-end=\"3135\">Until next time \u2014 may your coffee be warm, your records be legible, and your heart find a reason to smile.
