href=\"https:\/\/www.norwegianamerican.org\/How-to-use-the-MGS-Library\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Norwegian-American Genealogy Association<\/a> <\/strong>has a collection of bygdeb\u00f8ker housed at the Hoffman Research Library (HRL)\u00a0 located at the Minnesota Genealogy Center in Mendota Heights, Minnesota<em>.<div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:10px\"><\/div>\n<p><\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nagcnl.org\/about-our-library\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Norwegian-American Genealogical Center &amp; Naeseth Library<\/strong><\/a> Located in Madison, WI, this specialized center focuses on Norwegian genealogy and maintains an extensive collection of <em class=\"eujQNb\" data-complete=\"true\">bygdeb\u00f8ker<\/em>.<span class=\"T286Pc\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-complete=\"true\"><div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:10px\"><\/div><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul as the main centers for Norwegian-American research are in the U.S. However, some large national and university libraries may hold some volumes, though likely a smaller and more general collection.<span class=\"T286Pc\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-complete=\"true\"><div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:10px\"><\/div><\/span><\/div>\n<div role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"3\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-processed=\"true\" data-complete=\"true\"><\/div>\n<ul class=\"KsbFXc U6u95\" data-complete=\"true\" data-processed=\"true\">\n<li data-hveid=\"CAEIChAA\" data-complete=\"true\" However, its primary focus is on Canadian history and records.<div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:10px\"><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/li>\n<li data-hveid=\"CAEIChAB\" data-complete=\"true\" data-sae=\"\"><span class=\"T286Pc\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-complete=\"true\"><strong class=\"Yjhzub\" data-complete=\"true\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.ualberta.ca\/locations\/rutherford\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Alberta (Rutherford Library)<\/a>:<\/strong>\u00a0Edmonton, AB, has a significant Norwegian-Canadian community. University libraries in the prairie provinces, like the University of Alberta, are the most likely places to find relevant collections. For the large American collections, search &#8220;bygdebok&#8221; or the name of the specific town\/parish you are researching.<span class=\"T286Pc\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-complete=\"true\"><div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:10px\"><\/div><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"otQkpb\" role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"3\" data-processed=\"true\" data-complete=\"true\"><span class=\"T286Pc\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-complete=\"true\"><strong class=\"Yjhzub\" data-complete=\"true\">Interlibrary loan:<\/strong>\u00a0Many libraries are willing to loan their books to other libraries. If your local library is part of an interlibrary loan network, this is a convenient option.<div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:10px\"><\/div><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"otQkpb\" role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"3\" data-processed=\"true\" data-complete=\"true\"><span class=\"T286Pc\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-complete=\"true\"><strong class=\"Yjhzub\" data-complete=\"true\">Digitized versions:<\/strong>\u00a0A growing number of\u00a0<em class=\"eujQNb\" data-complete=\"true\">bygdeb\u00f8ker<\/em> are being digitized by the National Library of Norway (Nasjonalbiblioteket) and made available online. Most of these are restricted to users with a Norwegian IP address, but some older or out-of-copyright volumes are openly accessible.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"otQkpb\" role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"3\" data-processed=\"true\" data-complete=\"true\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Before_you_go\"><\/span>Before you go<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"otQkpb\" role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"3\" data-processed=\"true\" data-complete=\"true\">Before traveling to any of these libraries, be sure to check their online catalogs to confirm they hold the specific <em class=\"eujQNb\" data-complete=\"true\" data-processed=\"true\">bygdebok<\/em> you need.<span class=\"T286Pc\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-complete=\"true\"><div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:10px\"><\/div><\/span><\/li>\n<li role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"3\" data-processed=\"true\" data-complete=\"true\">Many <em>bygdeb\u00f8ker\u00a0<\/em>are published in several volumes. Even though a book is titled <em>&#8220;Bygdebok from &#8230;&#8230;..&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0 does not necessarily mean that your ancestors are presented in that specific volume. Also, to follow your ancestors through time you may need access to several of the volumes of the bygdebok.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This overview of <em data-start=\"75\" data-end=\"87\" data-is-only-node=\"\">bygdeb\u00f8ker<\/em> in American libraries is based on the information available to me at the time of writing. It is not exhaustive, and library holdings may change over time.
