{"id":8155,"date":"2020-03-10T07:44:38","date_gmt":"2020-03-10T05:44:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/martinroe.com\/blog\/?p=8155"},"modified":"2020-03-10T15:20:19","modified_gmt":"2020-03-10T13:20:19","slug":"new-material-in-the-digital-archives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/martinroe.com\/blog\/new-material-in-the-digital-archives\/","title":{"rendered":"New material in the Digital Archives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is a collection of sources that were published by the Digital Archives in the last two months.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The collection can be labeled &#8220;a little bit of this and a little bit of that&#8221;. Some of these sources are very relevant to us. I haven&#8217;t had the capacity to study the sources in detail, so they are presented as is.<\/p>\n<p>Of the census material, the National Archives in February published the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/ft\/browse?censuses%5B%5D=4&amp;municipalities%5B%5D=1301\">census of 1885 for Bergen<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0The 1885 census was previously transcribed and searchable, but the pictures make it possible to study the basis for the transcriptions.<\/p>\n<p>Oslo City Archives has published <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/ft\/browse?censuses%5B%5D=15&amp;municipalities%5B%5D=0301\">the municipal census for Kristiania (Oslo) for 1908 and 1909<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>IKA Hordaland <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/ft\/browse?censuses%5B%5D=15&amp;counties%5B%5D=12\">publishes household cards (dated November 1, 1917) from the Municipal Provisioning Council archives<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 These are not part of a census, but the similarities with censuses are so large that the sources in the Digital Archive are categorized as municipal censuses.<\/p>\n<p>It was published\u00a0<strong>288 fire assessment protocols<\/strong> from various collections in Riksarkivet (16), Statsarkivet Hamar (37), Statsarkivet Oslo (1), Statsarkivet Kristiansand (4), Statsarkivet Stavanger (26), Statsarkivet in Trondhem (34) and Statsarkivet in Troms\u00f8 (170). The easiest way to search is with the subject tag <a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?start_year=&amp;end_year=&amp;tags%5B%5D=84&amp;text=\">&#8220;Branntakster&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0, combined with county (s) and \/ or municipality (s).<\/p>\n<p>From the archive\u00a0<em>Statistics Norway (Statistisk sentralbyr\u00e5), Socio-demographic topics, Population<\/em>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-01000001363737\"><strong>288 boxes<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0were published\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-01000001363737\"><strong>with changes in the population<\/strong><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-01000001363737\"> for 1908-1913<\/a>.\u00a0The population changes include lists of births, marriages, deaths, and stillbirths, submitted to Statistisk Sentralbyr\u00e5 Norway.<\/p>\n<p><em>Notarial\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-07000000001090&amp;archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-07000000000413&amp;start_year=&amp;end_year=&amp;tags%5B%5D=114&amp;text=\"><strong>protocols and marriage protocols<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0have been published\u00a0from the archives of the Magistrate<em> and town clerk in Bergen<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Midhordland<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>A total of\u00a0<strong>65 emigrant protocols and registers for emigrant protocols<\/strong> have been published from the archives of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-02000000000638&amp;start_year=&amp;end_year=&amp;tags%5B%5D=118&amp;text=\">Fredrikstad Police<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-04000000000460&amp;start_year=&amp;end_year=&amp;tags%5B%5D=118&amp;text=\"><em>Larvik Police<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-07000000000739&amp;start_year=&amp;end_year=&amp;tags%5B%5D=118&amp;text=\">Bergen Police District<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-08000000019053&amp;start_year=&amp;end_year=&amp;tags%5B%5D=118&amp;text=\">Sunnm\u00f8re Police<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-08000000019054&amp;start_year=&amp;end_year=&amp;tags%5B%5D=118&amp;text=\"><em>Nordm\u00f8re Police,<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-08000000000091&amp;start_year=&amp;end_year=&amp;tags%5B%5D=118&amp;text=\">Trondheim Police<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>From the archive\u00a0<em>Nortraship, Ship Diaries<\/em>, digitization of World War II\u00a0<em>ship diaries<\/em>\u00a0is ongoing.\u00a0In February,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-01000001366589\"><strong>120 ship diaries were<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0published.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"8162\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/martinroe.com\/blog\/new-material-in-the-digital-archives\/diplom\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/martinroe.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Diplom.jpg?fit=677%2C487&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"677,487\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"Diplom\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/martinroe.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Diplom.jpg?fit=677%2C487&amp;ssl=1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8162 size-medium zoooom\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/martinroe.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Diplom.jpg?resize=300%2C216&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/martinroe.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Diplom.jpg?resize=300%2C216&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/martinroe.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Diplom.jpg?w=677&amp;ssl=1 677w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>A few decades ago, a large number of diplomas (letters) from the <em>National Archives&#8217; diploma collection <\/em>were photographed.\u00a0These\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=no-a1450-01000001342271&amp;text=Digitaliserte+foto\"><strong>diploma photographs<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0have been digitized and are now published.\u00a0Indexing is in progress that identifies each diploma. The oldest of these is from the year 1196. It may be hard to find information in these as they are mostly written in the Old Norse language.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The book series\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.digitalarkivet.no\/db\/browse?archives%5B%5D=4139\"><strong>Norwegian Rigs-Registrants in 12 volumes<\/strong><\/a> have been published. The image files are taken from Bokhylla (Webbook) in the &#8220;Old Digital Archive&#8221;.\u00a0 The Norwegian Government Registers 1523-1660, Volume I-XII is a printed collection of letters and regulations issued by the King through the Danish chancellery.<\/p>\n<p>The National Archives has also published a lot of other archive material;\u00a0single archive units or small groups of archive units.
