{"id":7820,"date":"2019-07-13T06:54:30","date_gmt":"2019-07-13T05:54:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/martinroe.com\/blog\/?p=7820"},"modified":"2019-07-13T22:34:48","modified_gmt":"2019-07-13T21:34:48","slug":"visiting-the-land-of-grandma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/martinroe.com\/blog\/visiting-the-land-of-grandma\/","title":{"rendered":"Visiting the land of Grandma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Genealogy is not only about sitting in front of the computer or roaming around in libraries.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Last week my wife Inger Lise and I, had a great experience as we got to accompany Lisa and Bob Laclede as they visited the place where Lisa&#8217;s grandmother Gjertine Eriksdatter \u00d8ksenv\u00e5g was born in 1890.<\/p>\n<p>Lisa and Bob had their trip organized by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.perfectlyplannedjourneys.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PERFECTLY PLANNED JOURNEYS<\/a> The owner Lene Heltberg Minyard, is a friend of mine. Lene contacted me and asked if I could look into Lisa&#8217;s genealogy as Lisa and Bob planned to visit Kristiansund, M\u00f8re og Romsdal county. It turned out that Lisa&#8217;s grandmother came from the nearby island Aver\u00f8ya, where she, after having lost both her parents by the age of 10, grew up with her grandparents in the little fishing village \u00d8ksenv\u00e5gen. At the age of 19, she emigrated and settled in Minnesota.\u00a0 In the 1910 census, she is recorded living with the family of her aunt Ellen Gjertina Folland in Kittson, Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to visiting the places Lisa&#8217;s ancestors lived, we also took a trip on the Atlantic ocean highway as shown in the featured photo.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7823\" the hotel Lisa and Bob stayed at in Kristiansund. I had suggested to Lene to put them up at this hotel as this is right on the spot where Lisa&#8217;s\u00a0 2G Grandfather Erik Edvardsen \u00d8ksenv\u00e5g lived the last years of his life.<\/p>\n<p>I hope Lisa and Bob had as great a day as Inger Lise and I.
