Names and dates tell us who our ancestors were, but photographs show us their faces, their clothing, their homes, and sometimes even the landscapes they lived in. <\/span>Using Flickr to share family photos can be a wonderful way to preserve and connect these memories.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"386\" data-end=\"641\">The challenge, however, is sharing these images. Boxes of photographs often remain scattered among relatives, tucked away in albums, or stored in drawers. Even when they are digitized, they can end up buried on a hard drive where few people ever see them.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"643\" data-end=\"919\">One simple solution is <strong data-start=\"666\" data-end=\"707\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Flickr<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, a long-running photo-sharing platform that can function as a digital family archive. Used thoughtfully, it can help genealogists organize, preserve, and share family photographs with relatives worldwide. That makes it particularly suitable for genealogical image collections.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1182\" data-end=\"1247\">Several features make it especially useful for family historians:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1249\" data-end=\"1273\"><strong data-start=\"1249\" data-end=\"1273\">High-quality storage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1275\" data-end=\"1524\">Flickr preserves images in high resolution. When we scan old photographs, we want to keep as much detail as possible\u2014whether it is the writing on the back of the photo, the embroidery on a bunad, or the architecture of a farmhouse in the background.
