For example:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1490\" data-end=\"2282\">\n<li data-start=\"1490\" data-end=\"1651\">\n<p data-start=\"1492\" data-end=\"1651\"><strong data-start=\"1492\" data-end=\"1530\">Emigration and immigration stories<\/strong><br data-start=\"1530\" data-end=\"1533\" \/>A great-grandparent who went to America. An aunt who went to sea. Someone who returned home after many years abroad.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1653\" data-end=\"1821\">\n<p data-start=\"1655\" data-end=\"1821\"><strong data-start=\"1655\" data-end=\"1681\">Everyday life memories<\/strong><br data-start=\"1681\" data-end=\"1684\" \/>Childhood on a farm, growing up in a town neighborhood, school memories, confirmation, first job, military service, early married life.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1823\" data-end=\"1985\">\n<p data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"1985\"><strong data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"1851\">Traditions and customs<\/strong><br data-start=\"1851\" data-end=\"1854\" \/>Holiday traditions, food customs, dialect words, songs, lullabies, sayings \u2013 anything that shows how your family \u201calways did it\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1987\" data-end=\"2133\">\n<p data-start=\"1989\" data-end=\"2133\"><strong data-start=\"1989\" data-end=\"2013\">Objects with a story<\/strong><br data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2016\" \/>The worn Bible with names inside, a coffee grinder, a chest, a piece of clothing, a tool \u2013 and the story behind it.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2135\" data-end=\"2282\">\n<p data-start=\"2137\" data-end=\"2282\"><strong data-start=\"2137\" data-end=\"2164\">Genealogy \u201cdiscoveries\u201d<\/strong><br data-start=\"2164\" data-end=\"2167\" \/>The moment a puzzle fell into place, an unexpected connection, or a surprising ancestor you found in the sources.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2284\" data-end=\"2456\">You don\u2019t have to be a \u201cwriter\u201d to contribute. The most important thing is that the story is honest, personal, and respectful. I run it because I enjoy genealogy, history, sharing what I learn and most of all: to interact with you. There is no big organization behind it \u2013 just one person, some coffee, and a love of stories.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2732\" data-end=\"2808\">Because of this, I unfortunately <strong data-start=\"2765\" data-end=\"2789\">cannot offer payment<\/strong> for contributions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2810\" data-end=\"2850\">I want to be completely open about that.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2852\" data-end=\"2874\">What I <em data-start=\"2859\" data-end=\"2864\">can<\/em> offer is:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2876\" data-end=\"3189\">\n<li data-start=\"2876\" data-end=\"2924\">\n<p data-start=\"2878\" data-end=\"2924\">Your <strong data-start=\"2883\" data-end=\"2908\">name clearly credited<\/strong> as the author<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2925\" data-end=\"3057\">\n<p data-start=\"2927\" data-end=\"3057\">A short <strong data-start=\"2935\" data-end=\"2949\">author bio<\/strong> at the end of the post (for example: who you are, where your family is from, and what you\u2019re interested in)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3058\" data-end=\"3126\">\n<p data-start=\"3060\" data-end=\"3126\">A link to your website, blog, or relevant project, if you have one<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3127\" data-end=\"3189\">\n<p data-start=\"3129\" data-end=\"3189\">Careful handling of your material with respect and gratitude<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3127\" data-end=\"3189\">My gratitude and commitment to help you expand your family history<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3191\" data-end=\"3367\">In other words: I can\u2019t pay you in money, but I can give your story a home where it will be read and appreciated by people who care about Norwegian heritage and family history.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"3369\" data-end=\"3372\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"3374\" data-end=\"3418\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%9CBut_My_Story_Is_Not_Interesting_Enough%E2%80%A6%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>\u201cBut My Story Is Not Interesting Enough\u2026\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3420\" data-end=\"3559\">I hear this all the time:<br data-start=\"3445\" data-end=\"3448\" \/><em data-start=\"3448\" data-end=\"3495\">\u201cNothing special ever happened in my family.\u201d<\/em><br data-start=\"3495\" data-end=\"3498\" \/><em data-start=\"3498\" data-end=\"3526\">\u201cMy life is too ordinary.\u201d<\/em><br data-start=\"3526\" data-end=\"3529\" \/><em data-start=\"3529\" data-end=\"3559\">\u201cI don\u2019t know how to write.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3561\" data-end=\"3584\">Let me gently disagree.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3586\" data-end=\"3654\">The \u201cordinary\u201d is exactly what future generations will want to know:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3656\" data-end=\"3874\">\n<li data-start=\"3656\" data-end=\"3695\">\n<p data-start=\"3658\" data-end=\"3695\">What was a typical school day like?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3696\" data-end=\"3751\">\n<p data-start=\"3698\" data-end=\"3751\">How did your parents discipline you \u2013 or spoil you?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3752\" data-end=\"3800\">\n<p data-start=\"3754\" data-end=\"3800\">How did you travel, shop, cook, work, relax?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3801\" data-end=\"3874\">\n<p data-start=\"3803\" data-end=\"3874\">What did your street, village, or farm look like when you were a child?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3876\" data-end=\"4055\">What feels normal to you today will not be normal forever. Times change. That\u2019s why your memories are important \u2013 they freeze a little piece of everyday life before it disappears.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4057\" data-end=\"4215\">And as for writing: you don\u2019t need to sound like a professor or a novelist. If you can tell it over a cup of coffee, we can turn it into a blog post together.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"4217\" data-end=\"4220\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"4222\" data-end=\"4247\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Long_Should_It_Be\"><\/span>How Long Should It Be?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4249\" data-end=\"4292\">There\u2019s no strict rule, but as a guideline:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4294\" data-end=\"4427\">\n<li data-start=\"4294\" data-end=\"4341\">\n<p data-start=\"4296\" data-end=\"4341\">Short reflections: around <strong data-start=\"4322\" data-end=\"4339\">500\u2013800 words<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4342\" data-end=\"4427\">\n<p data-start=\"4344\" data-end=\"4427\">Longer life stories or family histories: <strong data-start=\"4385\" data-end=\"4406\">1,000\u20131,500 words<\/strong> (or more, if needed)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4429\" data-end=\"4593\">If you have something much shorter \u2013 a little anecdote or a single memory \u2013 that can also be valuable. Several short pieces can even be combined into a themed post.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"4595\" data-end=\"4598\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"4600\" data-end=\"4637\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Can_I_Include_Photos_or_Documents\"><\/span>Can I Include Photos or Documents?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4639\" data-end=\"4695\">Yes, please \u2013 if you have them and are willing to share.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4697\" data-end=\"4813\">Old photographs, letters, postcards, recipe cards, or other illustrations can add a lot. If you send images, please:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4815\" data-end=\"5036\">\n<li data-start=\"4815\" data-end=\"4881\">\n<p data-start=\"4817\" data-end=\"4881\">Make sure you are comfortable having them published on the blog.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4882\" data-end=\"4961\">\n<p data-start=\"4884\" data-end=\"4961\">Tell me who or what is in the picture, and roughly when and where it is from.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4962\" data-end=\"5036\">\n<p data-start=\"4964\" data-end=\"5036\">Let me know if there are any names or details you prefer not to publish.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"5038\" data-end=\"5116\">If you\u2019re unsure, we can blur faces, crop, or leave out sensitive information.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"5118\" data-end=\"5121\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"5123\" data-end=\"5151\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Send_Me_Your_Story\"><\/span>How to Send Me Your Story<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"5153\" data-end=\"5211\">If you\u2019d like to contribute, here\u2019s a simple way to start:<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"5213\" data-end=\"5599\">\n<li data-start=\"5213\" data-end=\"5302\">\n<p data-start=\"5216\" data-end=\"5302\"><strong data-start=\"5216\" data-end=\"5236\">Write your story<\/strong> in your own words. Grandparents and great-grandparents took their memories with them, and now we can only guess at what their lives were like. There are so many things I would have liked to ask my parents about, if they still had been with us.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5994\" data-end=\"6075\">We can\u2019t change that. But we <em data-start=\"6023\" data-end=\"6028\">can<\/em> make sure the same thing doesn\u2019t happen to you.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6077\" data-end=\"6388\">Your story \u2013 or your family\u2019s story \u2013 might one day help a grandchild, a distant cousin, or a curious researcher understand where they come from.
