The kind of resources that you need for the study of genealogy as a hobby are quite different from the kind of sources that you would require for any other average hobby or passion. The genealogy supplies are different and are basically in the form of information whether they are written or word of mouth.
When you start the hobby of genealogy, then it is actually word of mouth that you get information from your relatives. Now if you aren't pursuing the hobby of genealogy, then bit of information about your family relayed through the relatives will mean nothing to you. However, it would be quite handy to keep a notebook at hand, when creating a family tree from all the information that you have gathered. Use a notebook that has demarcated sections or colored sections when you want to differentiate between the information that is available.
You could collection the information about disparate families in different notebooks. Whatever is convenient for you during the study of genealogy. Invest in a good expandable file to keep all the bits and pieces of information filed. Using a folder makes it a lot easier to be organized which is really important otherwise you will have bits of paper everywhere! So ensure that you have lots of paper clips, post its and a stapler ready to attach any information. Make suitable copies of the information that you collect as well. You would also need to arrange the information in families as well as a copy in a file on the individual. So in addition to a computer a printer would be useful as well. If you don't have a printer and you are intending on buying one get one that also works as a scanner. Scanners can scan and store the documents and data on the computer. In this way, you would be able to retrieve all the information that you require for creating the family tree. Printed documents can also be emailed as opposed to a paper family tree that has been created which is stored in a folder.
The first source of genealogy information will be exhausted pretty soon. After you have gathered all the information from your relatives you will also need to pursue other resources as well. There are plenty of websites and programs that are available that can help you to trace your genealogy and organize the data and information for you. The family tree programs or the genealogy computer programs that are available have many template and chart options and this can help you to organize the family tree quite easily. The genealogy software can even organize all the documents, credentials, awards, pictures and all the pertinent information quite easily.
Templates of family trees are especially helpful when organizing the data into a family tree. In fact organizing the family tree all by yourself can be quite a tricky proposition without templates. However organizing the data, documents, pictures, audio and video clips can be done quite easily by this software.
Though genealogy doesn't require many supplies a good software program, or a set of folders is important to stay organized and sane!
